Getting to Sheffield
For participants coming from overseas, the recommended point if ingress is Manchester. There are direct flights to Manchester from most cities in Europe and many cities in the US, including: Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Orlando, Atlanta, Chicago, Las Vegas and San Francisco.
There is a direct train from Manchester airport to Sheffield every hour that takes just over 60 minutes. The fare is relatively low, even if bought en route. Note that it is cheaper to buy a return ticket than two singles.
By contrast, from London, participants will need to first travel to London St. Pancras. From Heathrow, the underground to London St. Pancras takes approximately 55 minutes. Trains from Gatwick to London St. Pancras also take approximately one hour.
It is then a 2.5 hour train ride from London St. Pancras to Sheffield. Buying a ticket en route at peak time can be as much as £190 for the return fare. However, the Sheffield Marketing hotel booking website offers discounted rail tickets (with some restrictions). Please note that these rail tickets will be sent to you via regular post (“snail mail”), so be sure to book with plenty of time.
See http://www.nationalrail.co.uk for the train timetable and fares.
